One tiny distinction can make all the difference …
Growing up, I spent a lot of time with my best friends’ family who moved to Canada from Northern Italy where they owned an operated a restaurant for nearly 50 years.
When I was 15, they taught me the secrets to cooking the best Italian food you’ve ever had.
I remember it like it was yesterday, watching Nona work that kitchen like a fine-tuned machine.
The moment I would walk into the house, regardless of the time of day, I was met with mouth-watering aromas unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
There’s nothing like Nona’s cooking to make you drool with anticipation.
Nona didn’t speak English but somehow, I learned more from her about preparing masterpieces than anyone else has ever taught me.
Among my adult friends, I was raining champ in Italian cooking until last weekend when my good friend and Neighbor presented me with the BEST Meatball with a marinara sauce I have ever had.
Seriously! I had no choice to conceded my crown.
It was so much better than mine that I had to know how he did it.
After pressing him for the recipe, I laughed at what I discovered.
He told me that he was out for dinner with his wife and ran into a world-class cook who worked at a premier Italian restaurant.
My neighbor pressed him for information and apparently, he cracked under my friends repeated pressing and gave him the recipe he was looking for.
When I looked at the recipe, I could not contain my laughter.
His recipe was identical to mine except for one tiny detail.
What was this tiny detail you ask?
It came down to timing…
…All the ingredients where the same but the order and timing of how they were put together was slightly different.
Amazing!
AND, so it goes with life, success and happiness.
All too often we try to re-invent the wheel when sometimes, all we really need to do is make one subtle change to achieve greatness.
